  • Description

    Tairiiri. Fan. Composite tairiiri. The blade is woven from rauara (pandanus leaf) woven over a mauranaga (handle) rakau (wooden). The blade is in shape of a diamond. Plaited commencement at centre, and woven out in check to form lower edge and sides of blade. Blade completed with taki rua ara vivi (double-layered rim) approximately 20mm wide sewn into blade with threads of rauara. Blade terminates at single apex.

    Blade decorated with basic design woven with strands of natural-coloured rauara. Faces of the blade are not identical. Other side differs in that the pattern slightly varies. Blade is attached to a carved round mauranga rakau with strands of rauara woven in check covering the mauranga. Made by pupil of Atiu High School.
