Basket (English)

Kete. Basket. Woven container made of rito (young coconut leaf), cylindrical in shape with lid. Processed white rito (rito tunu) with pattern formed from green-grey rito mata (unprocessed strips of young coocnut leaf). Commencement as for hat for both base and lid. Checker work plaiting. Muted dark green and brown coloured etu (star) designs incorporated into the base and lid. A small cluster of polished cowrie shells decorate the top of the lid.
