  • Description

    pendant. In two pieces, broken across the body. Sides are parallel, lower end at right angles with rounded corners. Upper end at right angles to the sides, again rounded. One side at the upper end is indented by 2 mm and two shallow parallel grooves 4 mm long extend onto the pendant body on both sides. The other side at the upper end is damaged but remnant grooves can be seen. This was the means of lashing the pendant to a cord.

    Green obsidian, confirmed by XRF to be from Mayor Island. Surfaces are dull and slightly rough indicating grinding or abrading. Edges on the sides have been squared off but top and bottom there is no squaring. Width 49 mm, thickness 7 mm. Complete.
