trumpet, shell. puutaatara. Charonia lampas capax. Protoconch and upper whorls of the spire broken off and edges ground (subsequently broken or chipped). Wear on tubercles above the aperture, and wear on the varix. Small broken perforation on the outer apertural lip at approximately mid-point. Roughly rectangular shaped hole (recent) on the dorsal surface of the body whorl.

trumpet, shell. puutaatara. Charonia lampas capax. Shell smooth all over - ribs, striae and tubercles missing except those inside the apertural lip. Ribs on varix ground down forming a flat, sharp edged ridge. Within the anterior canal is a perforation (4 mm) through 1 side of the shell, and a smaller broken hole at the base. Large piece of shell broken from the dorsal surface of the body whorl. Incomplete.
