    Fly whisk (English)

  • Description

Fue. Fly Whisk. Fue are predominantly used by tulafale (talking chief) or high chiefs and are carried by them whilst making oratory presentations. Although fue resemble fly switches, the whisk part is made up of fuafuati (bundles) of long 'afa (sennit) or horse hair. This fue has a long thin wooden handle, deep mahogany brown in colour, cylindrical in shape with a slight bevel at the base.

The whisk is made up of many fuafuati 'afa which have been attached to the handle with a piece of string that is wrapped around the top of the handle for extra security. The fuafuati are plaited at the stop of the whisk and then left loose for the remainder.
