This is a natural fibered garment. When laid out flat it is rectangular in shape and flat in form. A two ply cord of natural fibre holds the mass of pinnules together. This can be seen through the knotted plait work across the cord. The pinnules run vertically from the waistband cord and are similar in length. An excess of fringing remains from the plaited knots across the waistband. The fibres are of a golden brown and yellow in tone. The cord extends at the top left and right hand corners. These would be used to fasten the skirt to the waist of the wearer.WāhiKiribatiAccession Number1982.63Rā Tāpiringa02 Mar 1982Tohu Tuakiri Kē49966 (ethnology)WāhangaPacific Uiuitia Tāpirihia ki Taku Kete Te riri; 1982.63; 49966; Cultural Permissions Apply Tirohia ngā pikitia Mātātuhi me ngā tuhinga Mātātuhi Mātātuhi Taonga Taonga Rārangi MihiCollection of Auckland Museum Tamaki Paenga Hira, 1982.63, 49966Takenga ā-AhureaKiribatiKaiwaihanga Matua Unknown (Maker)WāhiKiribatiRāPre 1982Tikanga Waihangawoven [handmade] [handwoven]Waitohu/māka49966; GILBERT IS.; Pres.
