    Skirt (English)

  • Kupu whakaahua

Te riri. Skirt. This is a natural fibered garment. When laid out flat it is rectangular in shape and flat in form. A two ply cord of natural fibre holds the mass of pinnules together. This can be seen through the knotted plait work across the cord. The pinnules run vertically from the waistband cord and are similar in length. An excess of fringing remains from the plaited knots across the waistband. The fibres are of a golden brown and yellow in tone.

The cord extends at the top left and right hand corners. These would be used to fasten the skirt to the waist of the wearer.
