  • Description

    Afa. Bag. Double-layered, rectangular in shape, and is woven from natural coloured strips of voivoi (pandanus) and strips of somo (dyed-black voivoi). Commencement from base. Rim along edges with strips of voivoi wrapped around a firm base possibly made of wood, bitu (bamboo) or dogo (mangrove). Inner layer consists of natural coloured strips of voivoi woven out in check.

    The out layer consists of wide strips of voivoi, commencing from base, altering to a fine check weave across the front and back sides of basikete. The front and the back sides are decorated near the centre with strips of somo forming zig-zag patterns across the width. A latch made of voivoi strips, tali rua (2-ply), is threaded and knotted through the upper centre of front side of basikete, secured with a button also made from voivoi.
