  • Description

    Kete. Bag. Kete kapu akari (coconut shell bag). Possible decorative use. Large mature kapu akari cut in such a way as to leave a carrying tatai (handle) over the top opening. Tatai decorated with a series of crosses and lines engraved into it. Base of tatai (both sides) has parau (pearl shell) button and dyed-red kiri au (hibiscus fibre) akamanea (decoration) tied to it. The roughly polished kapu akari is a natural dark brown in colour.
