Kato pesi. Purse. This is a hand woven kato pesi. It has been woven from lau fā (pandanus leaf). It is rectangular in shape and flat in form. The edge of the opening has been woven to form a straight edge. It appears a single kavei (handle) was originally attached to the central areas of the inside of the kato pesi. However, they have fractured leaving one side with a loose short part hanging by a fibrous strand.

The lalaga (weave) of the kato pesi shows a plain-woven format. Both the front and back show mata pelē (patterns). The mata pelē portray a symmetrical triangular, geometric motif that has been defined by black dyed strands of lau fā that have been applied externally.
