    Fish hook (English)

  • Description

    Matau. Fish hook. Matau's shank is carved from rakau (wood), and is a shaped piece of small branch. The nio (hook point) is attached securely with wrapped piece of cloth fabric. Puru akari (coconut sennit) taura tautai (fishing line) in an iri (braid) taki toru (3 ply) technique is also wrapped securely around top of shank. Dark brown in colour.
