  • Description

    Tofua. Vest woven from strips of voivoi (pandanus). The body of the vest is woven out in check, with the lower part of the vest consisting of voivoi walui (unfurled pandanus), feathered, and teased out. The shoulder straps have each been individually sewn to the body. There are flat braids, tali tolu (3-ply), visible on the ends of each shoulder strap. The edges of the shoulder straps are decorated with voivoi walui (unfurled pandanus). The back is made in a corset style.

    The back has multiple braids along two edges, down the centre, each braid tali tolu. The weave of the vest is decoratively finihsed off with short loose ends. Beige/light brown in overall colour. Worn in special ceremonies.
