Kailalo

human history
  • Other Name

    Coconut grater (English)

  • Description

Kailalo. Coconut grater. This kailalo is carved from solid wood of brown colour to create a solid rectangular platform on which to sit. A long extension protrudes from the front which has a small metal grater securely lashed to its head with plant fibre. An additional sticky substance assists in adhering the grater component to the wooden extension. Two stout 'legs' are carved out from the underside of the platform. The surface treatment is smooth and matte overall.
