  • Description

Tairiiri. Fan. Composite tairiiri with blade woven from kikau ou (young coconut leaf) with a light coloured mauranga (handle) rakau (wooden). The blade is in the shape of an inverted triangle. Plaited commencement at the centre base. Leaflets are split in half separating kikau (leaf) from kata (midrib) and woven outwards in finer check. All edges of the blade have a subtly patara (serrated) effect from the weaving. Top edge is slightly curved. Natural colour.

Blade is attached to a light coloured mauranga rakau and lashed at the centre base of blade with 14.5 mm of light coloured twine. Mauranga rakau has a knot and wider bast of handle from the natural branch it was formed from.
