  • Description

    Tairiiri. Fan. Composite tairiiri woven from rauara (pandanus leaf) with dyed-blue apuraka (giant swamp taro) overlay. The blade is in shape of a diamond. Plaited commencement at centre, and woven outwards in check to form lower edge and sides of blade. Blade terminates at single apex. Mostly natural in colour with decorated dyed-blue overlaid strips of apuraka. Faces of the blade are not identical. Other side differs with slight variation of pattern.

    Blade attached to a mauranga (handle) woven with strips of rauara. Lashed at centre base of blade with woven pandanus ara vivi (chain) pattern.
