In 1919 peace celebrations throughout New Zealand included a special day for children on 21st July. In February that year the government indicated that medals commemorating the peace would be distributed to all school children. The proposal didn't go ahead but in some centres medals and badges were distributed to children. In Wellington the Council of Free Kindergartens distributed a badge bearing the King's head and the inscription "Peace with Honour", and in Dunedin the Moray Place School Committee had a function attended by some 200 children each of whom was presented with a bronze medal.
