    Stone pounder (English)

  • Description

    Reru. Pounder. Used for pounding food or ingredients for producing dyes. Carved and polished from a single piece of stalactite (keho, morevai). Head of the pounder is formed into a transverse palm grip (markedly Mangaian in style). Body of the pounder is conical in shape (narrow at the neck and gradually expanding till widest at base). Flat pounding surface at base with some chipping around the edge. Amber colour with subtle variances.

    Some striations and variation in surface texture.
