  • Description

    Pōvai moungalaulau. Paddle club. This club is carved from one block of toa (ironwood) smooth and polished and dark rich brown in colour. The handle is cylindrical in shape and is unmarked, it tapers out to a paddle shape, curved at the end and thin in depth. The paddle part of the club is carved, front and back, with different patterns and lines as well as human and animal figures.

    Along the club head there are four sections of horizontal ridges extending from the middle and the point extending past the club. The numbers increasing per section five, six, seven and then ten.
