  • Description

Civa Vonovono. Breast ornament. The civa vonovono is constructed from composite materials. A large circular shell of civa (mother of pearl) dark and iridescent in colour is the base onto which four cut and polished pieces of off-white sui ni tovuto (whale ivory) are arranged and nailed down to create border on all sides the dark central square of the civa.

A twisted cord of natural-coloured wa ni voivoi (pandanus fibre cord) incorporating somosomo (black-dyed pandanus fibre) is suspended from the civa vonovono, attached at two drilled holes, one on either side of the upper area of the civa vonovono. Metal wire is wrapped around one point of the wa ni voivoi due to a previous breakage.
