Rattle

human history
  • Description

This rattle is made from a whole niu (coconut shell) encased by natural-coloured lau fa (pandanus) with a short suspension loop attached to the top in the same material. The fine strips of pandanus around the niu are woven in a sia (open work coiling) technique. Small items inside the coconut shell emit the rattling noise when shaken.
