    Te bau. Head garland. This bau is intended to be worn on the crown of the head. It is composed of a double row of burewa (sea shells) which are perforated and threaded onto a plaited base of te ba ni kaina (pandanus leaf). The ends of the bau are not tied together; one end is finished in a knot while the other is detached. Each burewa are small and off white in colour with light grey and pale yellow spotting across the surface.

    The ba ni kaina is naturally light brown in colour.
