This bau is intended to be worn on the crown of the head. It is composed of a double row of burewa (sea shells) which are perforated and threaded onto a plaited base of te ba ni kaina (pandanus leaf). The ends of the bau are not tied together; one end is finished in a knot while the other is detached. Each burewa are small and off white in colour with light grey and pale yellow spotting across the surface.
