    Stone food pounder (English)

  • Description

    Pōhaku ku‘i poi. Stone food pounder. This ku‘i (pounder) is worked from basalt pōhaku (stone) of a grey colour and dense grain. It is round in cross-section with a knob grip at its top end, flaring into the base which is wide in diameter and has a concave pounding surface. The surfaces are smooth and somewhat polished.
