  • Description

Ulūna. Headrest. This is a pillow woven from lauhala (Pandanus fibre) in the form of a rectangular shape. It is a natural faded yellow colour. The weave style has been described as a double-weave and was used as a pillow. The koena (waste) from the lauhala when collected and prepared for weaving would be used to stuff the uluna. Another substitute for the stuffing could be huluhulu (the fibrous hairs) of the tree fern.
