    Turtle shell fish hook (English)

  • Description

Makau 'ea. Turtle shell fish hook. This is a fishing hook comprised of two parts: a single fish hook and sennit cord. The single fish hook has a barbed point and a shank knob covered in olonā cord. It is dark brown in colour from the shank knob end and changes to a transparent brown towards the end of the barbed point. Olonā cord has been separated from the shank knob. It is a faded yellow with dark colouring among the weave crevices. This has been bundled with wire.

The size of the hook shows it could have been used for deep sea fishing.
