    Stone pounder (English)

  • Kupu whakaahua

    Reru. Pounder. Used for pounding food or ingredients for producing dyes. Carved from a single piece of [limestone]. Overall shape is conical. Pounding surface at base is slightly convex. Reduction from base to form cylindrical grip. Top of the pounder ends in a transverse concave bar, curved upwards. Surface is highly polished. Light grey in colour.
