  • Description

'Ie sina. Skirt; precious mat. This is a hand woven garment that is rectangular in shape when laid flat. It would be wrapped around the waist. It has been made from fau (hibiscus fibre) that has been refined by scraping, various water treatments and sun exposure. Each fibre has been organized carefully to be woven into its mat-like state with a combination of tag-like attachments that portray the shaggy-like surface. It is soft upon touch.

Such garments are considered rare and were once worn by women of high rank upon their wedding ceremony.
