    Adze, Hafted (English)

  • Description

    Toki Tarai. Hafted adze (adze separate, broken into two pieces). Toki (adze - triangular in cross section) of toka (stone) lashed with braided puru akari (coconut sennit) to carved, long wooden haft. Top of the haft carved out to accomodate the fitting of an adze, with piece of beaten tapa between the top of the haft and the lashing. The toki is in two pieces carved and polished at the blade. The toki is dark in colour.

    The carved wooden haft is stained dark in colour, the lashing is natural in colour. Carved elements at the top of the haft and the base.
