    Sling stone (English)

  • Description

    Toka maka. Sling stone. The stone is used with the sling as a form of projectile weaponry. The stone placed in the pouch of the sling, with the cord held in the hand. The sling was swung round and round the head and the held cord let go. Carved from stone, pohatu maori. Dark grey in colour. Spherical in shape. Surface treatment left pecked and flaked. Moderate level polish.
