Hat is made of coiled basketry in natural fibres of purple, dark brown and natural light brown colours. The exterior of the cap has faded so the purple appears to be light brown. The top of the hat has a smaller protruding section of coils that are slightly wider at the top. Around the top and bottom edges of the hat and the top edge of the coiled protrusion are attached strings of seeds, shells and cloth fabric. Most of these attachments comprise four cream-coloured seeds, then half of a bivalve shell perforated through the middle, then a small bundle of red, cream and dark greenish-grey cloth.WāhiIndiaRā Tāpiringa1906Tohu Tuakiri Kē12444 (ethnology)WāhangaWorld Uiuitia Tāpirihia ki Taku Kete Mātātuhi me ngā tuhinga Taonga Taonga Rārangi MihiCollection of Auckland Museum Tāmaki Paenga Hira, 12444KohingaShakespearWāhiIndiaWaitohu/māka12444 / INDIA (handwritten)Pāohoshellseed/plant materialplant fibre/natural fibre/fibreclothRaraunga Ine217mm85mmTaumata whakarōpūHatClothing, HeadwearPersonal ArtefactsWhakahounga o Mua13 Mar 2024 Tūemi e whai hononga Ngā hua o DigitalNZ Travels in New Zealand : with a map of the country Howick Historical Village The Sunday Group: Pacific Remittance Project Radio New Zealand Spectrum for 1 February 2009 Radio New Zealand "Hi!
