    hat (alternative)

Cap or hat decorated with shells and seeds. Hat is made of coiled basketry in natural fibres of purple, dark brown and natural light brown colours. The exterior of the cap has faded so the purple appears to be light brown. The top of the hat has a smaller protruding section of coils that are slightly wider at the top. Around the top and bottom edges of the hat and the top edge of the coiled protrusion are attached strings of seeds, shells and cloth fabric.

Most of these attachments comprise four cream-coloured seeds, then half of a bivalve shell perforated through the middle, then a small bundle of red, cream and dark greenish-grey cloth.
