    Chief's seat (English)

  • Description

    Atamira. Chief's seat. Carved from a single piece of wood. Decorated with carving along both edges of the seat. Four legs, vaevae pukuatu (heart-shaped feet) in section, slightly expanding at feet. Edges of the seat project downwards, forming a slight convex shape. The carvings consists of rows of representations of the human form and has been described as being a variant of tikitiki tangata, with the middle section consisting of zig zag patterns.

    This motif is also known as Moumourima (which translates to "holding hands"). Natural grain of wood visible across the seat. Brown in colour.
