bead work

human history
  • Description

Piece of beadwork ["made by the ladies of India", according to ethnology register]. Made of blue, beige and red [glass] seed beads. The piece is worked in an "X" shape, with a square in the centre that is framed with red beads, and has small red and white dots inside of it. Each arm of the piece has 8 rows of three squares, which are beige with blue outlines. There are four squares in each arm which have a red "X" inside of them.

The beadwork has broken in some places, and there are two loose, blue beads, which have been sewn onto a piece of cotton tape by conservation.
