  • Description

Ruatangaeo. Hafted adze (adze missing). An intricately open-carved long and squared wooden haft. Light in weight. Loss of one section near the haft. Top of the haft carved out to accomodate the fitting of an adze. A piece of shark skin covers the top which would otherwise be open. Puru akari (braided coconut sennit) of a fine weave lashed on to the top of the haft. K-form carving motifs (signature Mangaian carving motif) carved all along the wooden pedestal.

The lashing is natural in colour. The wooden haft is stained dark.
