    Reru. Pounder. Carved from a single piece of pohatu maori (basalt). Reru, or penu. Use for pounding/mashing food or ingredients for producing dyes. Rounded pounding surface. Reduction from base to form cylindrical grip. Top of pounder is rounded. Conical in overall shape. Gifted by T. F. Cheeseman in 1899.
