Pe'ahi

human history
  • Other Name

    Fan (English)

  • Description

Pe'ahi. Fan. This is a hand held fan woven in the form of a diamond shape. The internal spine is stabilized with a piece of 'ohe (bamboo). Mid tone browns and natural shades of lau hala (pandanus) have been woven around the handle and make up the body of the pe'ahi. The decorative style of weaving shows checks and plaids through different widths and coloured lau hala.

There is a small intricately woven cord of lau hala that has been wrapped around where the handle and the blade of the pe'ahi meet. This fan is light to handle.
