    Ma‘a. Sling stone. This ma‘a is worked from basalt pōhaku into a football shape. The football shape is ideal for aerodynamic purposes. This ma‘a has smooth surface treatment and is dark grey-brown in colour. Ma‘a would be propelled out of an ‘eke‘ekema‘a (sling) of three feet in length, twirled at the side of the body and overhead to gain speed and quickly released.
