  • Description

    This oblong kumete, carved bowl, is supported at both sides by elaborately carved figures, both with naturalistic five-fingered hands. Their feet, and the kumete's stand, are uncarved. On the lid is a pair of projecting figures, each gripping the other's arms. Much of the kumete, including the figures, has been carved with elaborate rauponga lines and spirals. The figures themselves all have round paua shell inset eyes.
