    Stone pounder (English)

  • Description

    Reru. Pounder. Used for pounding food or ingredients for producing dyes. Carved from a single piece of pohatu maori (basalt stone). Overall shape is conical. Pouding surface at base is slightly convex. Reduction from base to form cylindrical grip with slight flaring on the base. Top of the pounder ends in two simple protrusions. Overall surface is polished with some evidence of pecking remaining. Light brown colour.
