  • Description

    Ruatangaeo. Hafted adze. A toki (adze - trapezoidal in cross section) lashed to a long, cylindrical, ornately carved wooden haft with tapeka puru akari (coconut sennit lashing). The puru akari, braided in a fine flat iri taki toru (3-ply braid) is frayed in some areas. The same geometric motif repeated in rows all the way down the lenth of the haft. The puru akari is natural in colour, the toka is dark in colour, the haft is stained dark brown.
