Vivid and glittering, these painstakingly
applied beads are a feature of Nyonya
needlework. Nyonya is a term of respect for
the Peranakan craftswomen who decorate
shoes, hangings, and accessories in colourful
motifs. Peranakan people are originally from
China but now live in Malaysia and Indonesia.
