    Letter verso: Addressed to: Mrs Perrin, 27 Tainui Road, Cheltenham, Devonport, Auckland, New Zealand. "Dear R, I'm not sure if I thanked you in my letter for sending this Photo on again. I hope to get it safely this time. I wonder if you will recognise L. it's awfully bad of him. [signed]

    Dudley C Perrin, son of William and Lottie Perrin of Hillsborough Auckland, was working as a farmhand at the time of his enlistment. He left New Zealand with the 29th Reinforcements on No 92 Transport Ruahine on 15 August 1917 with F Coy, Otago Infantry Regiment. He was killed in action in France on 16 August 1918 while serving with 14th Company, 2nd Battalion, Otago Regiment. At that time the Battalion was engaged in action near the Serre-Puisieux Road. Dudley Perrin was aged 33 years at the time of his death and is buried at the Queens Cemetery, Bucquoy, Pas-de-Calais, France
