    Snider Mk II .577 inch calibre artillery carbine; New Zealand Military issue, 1881

    Snider Mk II .577 calibre artillery carbine; two barrel bands; two sling swivels; brass endcap, trigger guard, butt plate, and washers; screws provision for leather sight protector; this last 1880 contract of 2100 carbines is of particular interest for two reasons; firstly because they were made by C.G. Bonehill of Belmont Road of Birmingham, and secondly due to their being supplied without sword bayonet and having leather sight covers fitted in the mode of the cavalry carbines

    missing: clearing rod; nipple protector and chain; left hand screw for sight protector

    on lock: 1880 / CG BONEHILL; [crown] / VR; lockmaker's mark and [broad arrow]

    left hand side of barrel and body: various manufacturer's and proof marks and sold out service marks

    stamped on stock: W H HAZARD / GUN MAKER / AUCKLAND

    on top of breech: N 81 Z / 1[6]14

    on top of breech block: C.C.B; [crossed rifles] / WD; sold out of service marks

    inside breech block: 314

    cartouche in butt: BELMONT WORKS / BIRHM; in centre [broad arrow] / WD; sold out service mark beneath

    on butt tang: sold out of service mark / WD; [crown] / 12 / R
