Patterned rubbing board. This kupesi is rectangular in shape and is made up of six squares, three on top and three on the bottom which all have the same design (manulua?). The base is made from layers of kaka (coconut sheath) that have been cut to shape and sewn together along the edges with thread. Tu'aniu (coconut midrib) makes up the square patterns on the base and are sewn into place with the same thread. Usually pulu'i niu (coconut husk) is used to secure the kupesi together. This kupesi is varying shades of natural brown and is still intact and looks very much new. There is no indication that this kupesi has been used frequently.WāhiTonga/PacificAccession Number2003.100.2Rā Tāpiringa28 Nov 2003Tohu Tuakiri Kē56056 (ethnology)WāhangaPacific Uiuitia Tāpirihia ki Taku Kete rubbing tablet, 2003.100.2, 56056, Cultural Permissions… … Read more Tirohia ngā pikitia Mātātuhi me ngā tuhinga Mātātuhi Mātātuhi Taonga Taonga Rārangi MihiCollection of Auckland Museum Tamaki Paenga Hira, 2003.100.2, 56056Takenga ā-AhureaTonganKaiwaihanga Matua Unknown (Maker)WāhiTonga/PacificTikanga WaihangasewnWaitohu/māka56056 2003.100.2 (handwritten)Pāohococonut leaf/leaf (plant material)/plant materialcoconut leaf/leaf (plant material)/plant materialcoconut leaf/leaf (plant material)/plant materialcoconut (fibre)/plant fibre/natural fibre/fibre[coconut leaf]/leaf (plant material)/plant materialRaraunga Ine530mm340mm525mm333mm6mmHuinga KaupapaBark cloth/- PACIFIC SUBJECTS -Fibrework/- PACIFIC SUBJECTS -Women/- PACIFIC SUBJECTS -Taumata whakarōpūBark ClothTextileworking T&ETools & EquipmentWhakahounga o Mua08 Apr 2024 E hangaia tonutia ana te kohinga tuihono a Tāmaki Paenga Hira; tāpirihia ai ngā whakahoutanga me ngā pūkete i ia wiki.
