    Barkcloth beater (English)

  • Description

    Ike. Beater for tapa (barkcloth). Carved from solid piece of rakau (wood). Long and rectangular in shape with four flat sides for beating tapa. The length of the beating surfaces on two sides are carved in fine grooves. Two sides of two deep, widely spaced grooves. One end of the ike is carved to grip in the hand comfortably. Diamond and chevron motifs are etched on the top part of grip. Dark brown colour.
