  • Description

palette. Basalt palette fragment from Abydos. The palette is in the form of a falcon and is broken. The eyes are partially drilled but were likely not meant to perforate the piece. There are two more partially drilled holes halfway down the piece which do not perforate the thickness. The palette is burnt on one side and has staining on the other.

It was probably not finished prior to discard, and may have either broken while being shaped or was a practice piece, although the amount of work put into it makes this unlikely. From Abydos 1926/1636.
