  • Description

    Iri. Fan. Woven in a coiled technique from natural voivoi (pandanus) strands over a titi (mangrove reed) frame, incorporating dyed red vau (hibiscus bast) for decorative effect. Blade is shaped like a spade. Handle of shaped natural coloured wood split to its midway point. Coiled fibre blade is wedged down securely between the split wood and wrapped together with additional strip of voivoi. The colour of the dyed red vau is identified as dranilami (lamb's blood).
