This is a hand made kato pesi. It is rectangular in shape and flat in form. A triangular flap has been made as part of the entire kato pesi portraying an envelope style layout. The entirety of the kato pesi has been constructed entirely from pepe (Eucaena leucocephala, Leucaena leucocephala; Wild tamarind seeds). Each pepe would have been individually pierced before hardening. Each has been threaded in pairs to portray a twill appearance. A serrated border has been formed along the edge of the flap opening and also includes a clasp finish of the same pepe material. A handle of the same pepe material has been threaded and attached as a separate component to the construction of the kato pesi.Accession Number1926.193Rā Tāpiringa01 Sep 1924Tohu Tuakiri Kē10151 (ethnology)WāhangaPacific Uiuitia Tāpirihia ki Taku Kete Kato pesi, 1926.193, 10151, Photographed by Richard Ng,… … Read more Tirohia ngā pikitia Mātātuhi me ngā tuhinga Mātātuhi Mātātuhi Taonga Taonga Rārangi MihiCollection of Auckland Museum Tāmaki Paenga Hira, 1926.193, 10151Takenga ā-AhureaNiueanRāPre 1924Tikanga Waihangabeaded handmadeWaitohu/māka10151 Polynesia; Deposited; Misses White (label, stick on/label)Pāohoseed/plant materialRaraunga Ine210mm165mmHuinga KaupapaBasketry/- PACIFIC SUBJECTS -Taumata whakarōpūBagPersonal GearPersonal ArtefactsWhakahounga o Mua16 Sep 2019 E hangaia tonutia ana te kohinga tuihono a Tāmaki Paenga Hira; tāpirihia ai ngā whakahoutanga me ngā pūkete i ia wiki.
