Te reeree

human history
  • Other Name

    Sword (English)

  • Description

Te reeree. Sword. This is a hand held weapon made from the following materials: kora (cordage of coconut sennit fibres), wii ni bakoa (sharks teeth) and wood. A length of wood has been cut, carved and filed to portray both blade and handle for the reeree. The handle has been filed into a cylindrical form with a convex base. The blade has been filed out to resemble a centre ridge on both sides that extends towards the top of the reeree. It has been tapered into a point.

A drilled circular perforation features upon the top part central to the handle. Continuous circular perforations run along both sides of the blade. This is for the purpose of inserting the kora for attaching wii ni bakoa. Each wii ni bakoa has a circular perforation made through their centres. The wood of the reeree is of a dark brown and red tone and three wii ni bakoa are missing from the base of the blade.
