    silver medal, two bars, plain straight swivelling suspender, with ribbon

    obverse: crowned and veiled head of Queen Victoria and legend VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX

    reverse: Britannia with a flag in her left hand and holding out a laurel wreath in her right towards an advancing party of soldiers, in the background are two warships, below the wreath, in two lines: 1899-1900 in relief, around top: SOUTH AFRICA
