paepae (Maori)

This paepae, lintel, has an openwork mata kupenga design with horizontal bands of pungawerewere along the top and bottom edges, and across the centre. The paepae features five projecting figures, all with paua shell discs in the eyes and torso (but some are missing). There is some loss to the left of the central figure.
