    Lapping block

    Circular wooden box with circular steel plate. Lid missing.

    Lapping blocks were wooden blocks which held metal plates in which fine abrasives were embedded. Progressively finer abrasives produced a fine polish on a flat surface without rounding edges or corners of the article.
